Our last morning was quiet, we didn’t get back to camp until after 10pm the night before, so everyone slept in. Breakfast was a leftover egg, cheese and sausage jumble, plus all the yogurt, cereal and fruit we could eat. We packed our bags, cleaned out our tents as best we could, and once everything was ready, we left our home for the past week to sightsee the main tourist spots on our way out of the park. We stopped at the visitor center to check out the museum and buy souvenirs, then had our last lunch together in the shade by Furnace Creek Resort. We visited the Harmony Borax Works, Devil’s Golf Course, and Badwater before heading out of Death Valley on Badwater Road through Salsberry Pass at 3315 ft. and into Shoshone for a rest stop and on to Las Vegas, where we parted ways. I’m grateful for the many new friends I made, and the wonderful time we had together this week in Death Valley, a truly beautiful place!
A nice picnic in the shade

open for 7 years, closed in summer as it was too hot to process the borax
20 mule team wagons and water tank
when loaded, it weighed 36 tons and took 10 days to get to the railroad junction.
the borax was literally raked off the valley floor and processed
Devil’s Golf Course. Watch your footing, you do not want to fall here.
So serrated that “only the devil could play golf on such rough links.”

Salt water pool not far from the parking lot

Salt crystal from around pool (I put it back)
That sign 2/3 of the way up the cliff says Seal Level (0 ft. elevation) We are looking up at it from almost 300 feet below.

Total tourist shot, but hey, I’m here!
You can walk 4 miles out and get 2 feet lower, but is it worth it? I’m ok with 282 ft. below sea level.
Pure NaCl, table salt.
The infamous “bad” water that not even a prospector’s burro would drink.
there were little slug-like creatures in the water, so it isn’t all bad, I guess

Where does that tiny blue hole lead?
